Basketball Recap: East Burke Takes a Loss

East Burke played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 69-47 to the West Lincoln Rebels. The Cavaliers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rebels apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, East Burke saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Carter Bennett went 6 for 13 en route to 17 points. Those 17 points gave Bennett a new career-high. Dautry Ragle was another key player, putting up nine points and five boards.

Jayce Rowe continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for West Lincoln, going 8 of 19 on his way to 24 points along with six assists and five steals. The game was Rowe's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Beddingfield, who went 5 for 11 en route to 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

East Burke has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for West Lincoln, the win made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 7-9.

East Burke has already played their next contest, a 65-58 victory against West Caldwell on the 21st. As for West Lincoln, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-62 loss against Lincolnton on the 21st.
