Basketball Recap: Purnell Swett Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jeremiah Barnes and Collin Sampson

Purnell Swett lost against South View back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Purnell Swett Rams came up short against the South View Tigers, falling 69-47. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 542nd, while the Tigers are ranked 202nd).

Collin Sampson and Jeremiah Barnes certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Sampson went 7 of 16 en route to 21 points and three steals, while Barnes went 6 for 14 on his way to 18 points. The matchup was Sampson's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Sampson, who posted no points and three steals.

South View's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Yabniel Cheveres, who went 6 for 11 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Naishion Singletary, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 13 points and six boards.

Purnell Swett has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season. As for South View, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Seventy-First the next time they take the court. South View will host Seventy-First at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Purnell Swett will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
