Basketball Recap: Syracuse Wins High-Profile Contest Against Mountain Crest

On Friday, Syracuse faced Mountain Crest in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Syracuse Titans came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mountain Crest Mustangs, sneaking past 57-54. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Titans also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Syracuse was led to victory by Rachel McBride and Maylee Anderson. McBride dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Anderson went 8 of 16 on her way to 19 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave McBride a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Olivia Sorenson, who posted four points and six steals.

Mountain Crest lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Leighton Pratt, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards. Pratt is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Emersyn Brown, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 19 points.

The victory was the third in a row for Syracuse, bringing their record for this year to 3-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Mountain Crest, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2.

Syracuse wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 48-39 win against Morgan on the 7th. As for Mountain Crest, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-39 victory against Jordan on the 7th.
