Basketball Recap: Baron Medina and Brycen Samuelson Secure Win for Holdrege

Holdrege won the last time they faced Kearney Catholic and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Dusters came out on top against the Stars by a score of 64-56. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Dusters.

Leading Holdrege to victory were Brycen Samuelson and Baron Medina. Samuelson went 7-for-12 to rack up 20 points along with six boards and four blocks, while Medina posted 17 points and three steals. Samuelson is becoming a predictor of the Dusters' success: when he posts at least 20 points the team is 2-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Lucas Johnson, who earned five points in addition to seven assists and seven rebounds.

Despite the loss, Kearney Catholic still got an impressive performance from Nash Malone, who had 14 points. Zane Slack was another key player, putting up six points.

Holdrege's victory bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Kearney Catholic, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-8.

Coming up, Holdrege will venture away from home to face off against Minden at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Dusters will need to watch out since the Whippets have now posted at least 55 points in their last five games. As for Kearney Catholic, they will host Aurora at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Stars' defense better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 55.3 points per game this season.
