Soccer Game Preview: Emerson vs. Liberty

The Emerson Mavericks are taking a road trip to take on the Liberty Redhawks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Emerson's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Last Friday, Emerson didn't have quite enough to beat Centennial and fell 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Mavericks have lost by just one goal.

Their goal came courtesy of Romina Armas Montes De Oca, which was the first she's scored this season.

Meanwhile, Liberty has been on a difficult stretch since their win on January 14. They came up short against Memorial on Friday, falling 6-0. While losing is never fun, the Redhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 515th, while the Warriors are ranked 56th).

Emerson's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14-2.

Emerson took their victory against Liberty when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Emerson since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
