Softball Recap: Winona Comes Up Short

Winona extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 8-11 in the process. They lost 13-2 to the Byron Bears. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bears this season, with their most recent loss being a 4-1 defeat last Wednesday.

As for Byron, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-5. Considering they have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Byron's part, Tallie Behrens was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Behrens was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kaydence Fjerstad was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Leeah Strain was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

While Winona had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
