It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Nucla had no problem doing just that on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Rocky Mountain Lutheran Eagles as they made off with a 12-2 win. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Jackson McCabe spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, Brycen Rummel was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Hulst, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Nucla was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rocky Mountain Lutheran only posted a batting average of .105.
The victory was the fifth in a row for Nucla, bringing their record up to 13-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Rocky Mountain Lutheran, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-7.
Looking ahead, Nucla will take on Simla at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Cubs will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. Rocky Mountain Lutheran does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
