Basketball Recap: Elba's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fullerton, Elba was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They snuck past the Harvard Cardinals with a 37-33 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bluejays as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Elba's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kjell Brockhoff, who posted seven points in addition to 14 rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Brockhoff a new career-high in boards. Ander Iturrioz also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Harvard lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ethyn Whetstine-Jones, who almost dropped a triple-double on 15 points, nine rebounds, and 11 steals. That was a full 45.5% of Harvard's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Cohen Reutzel, who had eight points and 18 boards.

Elba's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-14. As for Harvard, they dropped their record down to 0-17 with the loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Elba wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-28 defeat against High Plains on the 1st. Harvard has also already played their next match, a 58-15 loss against Giltner on the 1st.
