Baseball Game Preview: Richmond Raiders vs. Caldwell Academy Eagles

The Richmond Raiders will face off against the Caldwell Academy Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Richmond will be strutting in after a victory while Caldwell Academy will be coming in after a loss.

Richmond is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Lee County 12-2 on Friday. The win was familiar territory for the Raiders, who have now won three contests in a row.

Richmond got a great performance from Jason Walker as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Walker has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Caden Nolan was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Drew Gause, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Caldwell Academy came up short against Carmel Christian on Thursday and fell 10-5. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Brett Bullins was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Caldwell Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Richmond, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Richmond has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Caldwell Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Richmond came out on top in a nail-biter against Caldwell Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
