Basketball Game Preview: SkyView Academy Hawks vs. Prospect Ridge Academy Miners

SkyView Academy and Prospect Ridge Academy are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The SkyView Academy Hawks will be playing at home against the Prospect Ridge Academy Miners at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (SkyView Academy has four straight wins, Prospect Ridge Academy has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

SkyView Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They secured a 43-37 W over Union Colony Prep on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by exactly six points.

SkyView Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lydia Slocum led the charge by going 9 of 22 en route to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Slocum a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Ellie McLaughlin, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

SkyView Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Prospect Ridge Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 32-28 to The Academy. While the Miners didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wildcats 8-4 in the first quarter.

Prospect Ridge Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for SkyView Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season.
