Soccer Game Preview: Sumter vs. Blythewood

Sumter is 0-3 against Blythewood since March of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Gamecocks will host the Bengals at 7:30 p.m. Sumter has given up an average of 2.7 goals per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Sumter is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They lost 5-0 to Gray Collegiate Academy. While losing is never fun, Sumter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Gray Collegiate Academy are ranked 21st).

Meanwhile, Blythewood entered their tilt with Ridge View on Thursday with nine consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with ten. Their defense stepped up to hand the Blazers an 8-0 shutout. Blythewood might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by four goals or more this season.

Blythewood's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those five games. As for Sumter, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.
