Basketball Game Preview: Boerne-Champion Chargers vs. Smithson Valley Rangers

The Boerne-Champion Chargers will square off against the Smithson Valley Rangers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Smithson Valley took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Boerne-Champion, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, Boerne-Champion didn't have too much trouble with Veterans Memorial as they won 60-44. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 362nd, while the Patriots are ranked 929th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Smithson Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 47-32 bruising from Veterans Memorial.

Boerne-Champion will have to contain Cyanna Cavazos as she made an impact in Smithson Valley's last game. She posted 23 points. That's the most points Cavazos has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aspen Murphy, who put up five points.

Smithson Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 8-17. As for Boerne-Champion, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-11.

Boerne-Champion came out on top in a nail-biter against Smithson Valley in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, sneaking past 49-46. Does Boerne-Champion have another victory up their sleeve, or will Smithson Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
