Basketball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Statesville's Winning Streak

After a string of five wins, Statesville's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost to the North Lincoln Knights at home by a 68-49 margin. The Greyhounds were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Knights earlier this season, when they won 83-81.

Statesville lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Manuel (MJ) Gladden, who posted 15 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Kevin Bryant, who had ten points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Statesville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

North Lincoln's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ben Heavner, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points along with eight boards and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty Sanders, who earned 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Statesville's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7. As for North Lincoln, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-5.

Statesville will head out to challenge East Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Statesville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.3 points per game this season. As for North Lincoln, they will welcome Hickory at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Lincoln knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 matches -- so hopefully Hickory likes a good challenge.
