Baseball Recap: Covington Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Covington proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by seven) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Milford Bulldogs 8-7. The win was nothing new for the Owls as they're now sitting on three straight.

Jeremiah Cunningham was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 15 over 6.1 innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ivan Mendez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

Covington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Covington's victory bumped their record up to 8-4-2. As for Milford, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

Covington will have a chance to go back-to-back against Milford: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
