Baseball Game Preview: Estero Wildcats vs. Gateway Charter Griffins

Estero has gone a perfect 3-0 against Gateway Charter recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Estero will welcome Gateway Charter at 7:00 p.m. Neither Estero nor Gateway Charter posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Estero took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Thursday. They never let Ida Baker get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

The result came thanks to Will Swan's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Evan Goeller was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Gateway Charter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of Master's Academy.

Brandon Lackwood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Estero's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gateway Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

Estero was able to grind out a solid victory over Gateway Charter in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 4-1. Will Estero repeat their success, or does Gateway Charter has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
