The Benson Bobcats will face off against the Horizon Honors Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Benson has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Horizon Honors will arrive with five straight wins.
It was a proper cat-fight when Benson took on St. David on Friday. Benson lost 13-3 to St. David.
Sadie Webb made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Kaylei Taylor was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Horizon Honors got themselves on the board against Tempe Prep last Wednesday, but Tempe Prep never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 21-0 victory. The contest marked the Eagles' most dominant win of the season so far.
Tatum Spindler and Danica Gutierrez were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Spindler tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gutierrez tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Spindler scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Gutierrez scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Josie Barden was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Horizon Honors was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .900. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in eight consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Benson's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Horizon Honors, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Benson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324.
