Basketball Game Preview: Tell City Marksmen vs. South Spencer Rebels

Tell City hasn't had much luck against South Spencer recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Tell City Marksmen will venture away from home to face off against the South Spencer Rebels at 1:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Tell City saw some tournament action last Saturday. They took down McLean County 47-29. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Marksmen.

Emme Hoesli was a one-woman wrecking crew for Tell City as she went 7 for 15 on her way to 20 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ollie Toothman, who posted nine points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Tell City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in October of 2023.

Meanwhile, South Spencer humbled Apollo with a 53-21 victory. The Rebels have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 20 points or more this season.

South Spencer found their leader in sophomore Jaci Meece, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 13 points along with five assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kali Wink, who put up 11 points.

The victory got South Spencer back to even at 6-6. As for Tell City, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Tell City has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 24.8 boards per game. However, it's not like South Spencer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Tell City lost to South Spencer on the road by a decisive 53-38 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Tell City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
