Basketball Recap: Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines vs. Fillmore Central Panthers
Even though the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines have not done well against the Fillmore Central Panthers recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Wilber-Clatonia came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 45-34. This was payback for Wilber-Clatonia, who suffered a 39-21 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Despite the defeat, Fillmore Central saw an underclassman step up: Ali Nichols scored ten points along with six rebounds and six steals. Another player making a difference was Abigail Kimbrough, who scored six points along with two steals.
Fillmore Central struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Wilber-Clatonia's win bumped their record up to 5-15. As for Fillmore Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-16.
Wilber-Clatonia is on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Sutton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Wolverines in Nebraska (the Mustangs are ranked 96th, while the Wolverines are ranked 228th). As for Fillmore Central, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Cougars. Hopefully Sandy Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday.
