Basketball Game Preview: Newnan Cougars vs. Russell County Warriors

The Newnan Cougars and the Russell County Warriors will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

It was a proper cat-fight when Newnan faced off against Temple on Saturday. Newnan fell to Temple 41-37. The matchup marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Russell County suffered their closest defeat since January 30th last Saturday. They fell just short of Shaw by a score of 49-46. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Warriors came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 98th in Alabama, while the Raiders are ranked 325th in Georgia).

With the loss, Newnan broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-2. As for Russell County, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.

Newnan beat Russell County 70-59 when the teams last played back in December of 2020. Will Newnan repeat their success, or does Russell County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
