Softball Recap: Ten Straight Road Wins for Lake-Lehman

Lake-Lehman proved they can win big on Monday (they won by eight) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 win over the Pittston Patriots. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Knights, who until this matchup were averaging 2.56 runs allowed.

Hannah Chipego made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kirsten Finarelli, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Haylee Makarewicz was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Lake-Lehman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.

Lake-Lehman pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Pittston, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Lake-Lehman has already played their next contest, an 8-2 victory against Berwick on the 21st. As for Pittston, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 19-5 win against Hazleton Area on the 22nd.
