Game recap: Maine South pulls off late win against Evanston

Maine South (Park Ridge, Ill.) grabbed the lead when John Oberheide kicked a field goal with 5:00 to go in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat Evanston (Ill.) 31-21 on Saturday. The score was the final lead change in a back-and-forth contest that featured four lead swaps.

The Wildkits pulled ahead on a Maalik Todd touchdown pass to Deontre Yarbrough, and subsequently went into halftime leading 14-13. The Hawks took the lead for good with a field goal by Oberheide in the fourth quarter.

Despite scoring eight points in the third, Maine South still trailed by 7 points going into the fourth quarter. But 10 points in the fourth helped MS pull out the victory.

Evanston's Chris Little played well. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.

Matt Alviti played well for the Park Ridge school in the victory. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown.

EHS came in giving up 10.8 points per game this season.



The Hawks also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 48-7.

In a Central Suburban - South game next week Evanston (4-3) takes on New Trier, and Maine South (7-0) will go up against Waukegan also in a Central Suburban - South game.
