Gretna is 8-2 against William Campbell since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Generals at 5:30 p.m. Gretna has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Monday just wasn't the day for Gretna's offense. They came up short against Jefferson Forest on Monday, falling 11-0. The Hawks' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask William Campbell). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Prince Edward County a 16-0 shutout on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Generals as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Peighton Francis was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Francis was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Arnesia Dews was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Isabel Puckette, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
William Campbell hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Prince Edward County struck out seven times.
Gretna's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for William Campbell, their win bumped their record up to 2-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Gretna has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like William Campbell struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Gretna skirted past William Campbell 4-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Generals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
