Baseball Game Preview: Richwood Lumberjacks vs. Liberty Raiders

The Richwood Lumberjacks will head out on the road to face off against the Liberty Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Richwood will be strutting in after a victory while Liberty will be coming in after a loss.

Richwood was handed a 14-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They skirted past Pocahontas County 14-13. The Lumberjacks haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Jayden Hamon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hamon was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kaden Lane was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cameron Jenkins, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Liberty was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Shady Spring.

Richwood's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Liberty, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Richwood might still be hurting after the 7-1 loss they got from Liberty in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Richwood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
