Baseball Recap: Pendleton County Takes a Loss

After flying high against Harman on Wednesday, Pendleton County came back down to earth. The Wildcat took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southern Rams on Thursday.

Cooper Smith was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Chase Owens was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Cashton Kisamore, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Pendleton County dropped their record down to 7-9 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Southern, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-7.

Looking ahead, Pendleton County will head out to face off against Elkins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcat's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Southern, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Hancock at 4:30 p.m.
