Basketball Recap: Port Aransas Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Port Aransas couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 52-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hearne Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Marlins of the 55-37 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2019.

Dereion Mitchell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Hearne, dropping a double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Mitchell's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellen Bowser, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 11 boards.

Port Aransas moved to 29-10 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Hearne, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-5 record this season.

Port Aransas does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hearne, they will take on Marlin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Marlin comes in on 16 and Hearne on five.
