Baseball Recap: Navajo Pine Takes a Loss

Navajo Pine extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 2-17 in the process. They came up short against the Laguna Acoma Hawks, falling 23-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-0 on Saturday.

Navajo Pine saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dayshaun Chee, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

As for Laguna Acoma, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by nine runs or more this season.

On Laguna Acoma's side, Jayden Dailey made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Dailey has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Laguna Acoma got a massive performance out of Patrick Smith, who fired off two home runs, four stolen bases, and four runs while going 2-for-2. Those four stolen bases gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Derek Victorino Jr, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs.

Coming up, Navajo Pine is taking a road trip to challenge Jemez Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Laguna Acoma, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rehoboth Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lynx have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
