Baseball Recap: Montgomery Comes Up Short

Montgomery was the 15-0 winner over Sugar Valley Rural when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Red Raiders lost 13-7 to the Phoenix on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that the Red Raiders have lost by exactly six runs.

Parker Bennett was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Montgomery's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 9-4. As for Sugar Valley Rural, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-8-1.

Looking ahead, Montgomery will venture away from home to face off against Selinsgrove at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Red Raiders are facing the Seals at the right time seeing as the Seals are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Sugar Valley Rural, they will be playing at home against Sullivan County at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Griffins have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.83 runs per game on average), something the Phoenix will no doubt try to take advantage of.
