Baseball Game Preview: Bellingham Bayhawks vs. Ferndale Golden Eagles

Bellingham is 0-7 against Ferndale since March of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Bayhawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Neither Bellingham nor Ferndale posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Bellingham fell victim to Blaine and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 6-0 to the Borderites. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bayhawks have suffered since May 7, 2024.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Ferndale and Sehome meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Golden Eagles fell 5-1 to the Mariners.

Fenton Vasak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Ferndale is 5-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Ferndale saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tracen Pazaski, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Bellingham's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Ferndale, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bellingham has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ferndale struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
