Softball Recap: Emery Takes a Loss

Emery fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Canyon View on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 8-7. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Falcons earlier this season, when they won 8-7.

Kallee Lake spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Elli Stoker and Aleeyah Cowley stepped up to the plate in a big way. Stoker went 4-for-5 with three doubles and one RBI, while Cowley went 2-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Kali Jensen, who went 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

Emery moved to 15-11 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Canyon View, they pushed their record up to 6-15 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Emery will face off against Duchesne at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Canyon View, they will square off against Cedar at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Reds have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
