Basketball Recap: Mt. Blue's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Mt. Blue came into Saturday's game having lost 13 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They escaped with a win on Saturday against the Messalonskee Eagles by the margin of a single free throw, 36-35. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Eagles back in January, they had to take a 42-25 loss.

Mt. Blue's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-12 and their overall record up to 2-15. As for Messalonskee, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Mt. Blue Cougars take on the Gardiner Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Messalonskee has already played their next contest (against Skowhegan), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
