Basketball Recap: Za'kiah Hixson Key Part of a Team Effort in Bearcats Win

The third road match was the charm for Anson, as they earned their first road win of the season. They secured a 44-39 W over the Chesterfield Golden Rams on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Bearcats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 437th in North Carolina, while the Golden Rams are ranked 198th in South Carolina).

Anson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Za'Kiah Hixson, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 14 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Hixson is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Titiyanna Burns was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Anson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Chesterfield saw an underclassman step up: freshman Terrahjah Robinson posted 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Rivers, who had eight points and eight rebounds.

The win got Anson back to even at 4-4. As for Chesterfield, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Anson will take on Central in a holiday battle at at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Anson is facing Central at the right time seeing as Central is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Chesterfield, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-35 victory against Buford on the 17th.
