MaxPreps Sac-Joaquin Section Top 25 high school football rankings

Four Delta River League foes remain in Division I, while four fall from the Top 10.

The Delta River League has stepped up to seize control of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I semifinal bracket. It's a first for the section to have the remaining four teams from the same league as MaxPreps section-ranked No. 1 Folsom, No. 3 Oak Ridge, No. 5 Pleasant Grove and No. 7 Jesuit advanced.

From last week's rankings, Nos. 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11 lost, thus a big shuffling.

MaxPreps Sac-Joaquin Top 25 Football Rankings

1. (Last week 1) Folsom (12-0)
The Bulldogs beat previous No. 20 Franklin 49-16 in a Sac-Joaquin Section D-I second-round game as Jake Browning made history. He passed for 332 yards and six touchdowns, giving him a state-record 68 for the season. Will McClure and Josiah Deguara each had two TD catches. The last loss was to De La Salle.

2. (2) Del Oro (Loomis) (10-2)

The Golden Eagles beat Whitney 35-11 in Sac-Joaquin Section D-II play, scoring 21 unanswered points in the second half. QB Michael Moore and RB Dylan Kainrath led the way. Del Oro is unbeaten in Section play and last lost to De La Salle.

3. (3) Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) (11-1)
The Trojans beat two-time defending Sac-Joaquin Section D-I champion Granite Bay 28-17, pitching a second-half shutout for the third successive week and second time in the playoffs. Ian Book tossed two TDs, Josh Wellman ran for 110 yards and a score, Victor Bunce had two interceptions and James Portilla, Thomas Mahlman and Colton Giorgi combined for 35 tackles. The loss was to Folsom.

4. (4) Elk Grove (11-1)
The Thundering Herd beat Burbank (Sacramento) 18-12 in a Sac-Joaquin Section D-II contest, dripping of speed and power. Wadus Parker rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns and the defense limited Burbank to five first downs and one offensive touchdown.

5. (5) Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove) (10-2)
The Eagles beat Stagg (Stockton) 42-28 in a Sac-Joaquin Section D-I playoff game for the second year in a row. Ian Broom rushed 43 times for 241 yards.

6. (10) Rio Linda (11-1)
The Knights beat Vacaville 31-21 in a Sac-Joaquin Section D-II game behind Marcel Brown, who rushed for 233 yards and three touchdowns. Leonard Skattebo rushed for a score and had 12 tackles.
Next: No. 4 Elk Grove, Friday



7. (19) Jesuit (Carmichael) (9-3)
The Marauders beat Tracy 49-28 in a Sac-Joaquin Section D-I game a week after winning the program's first playoff game in 10 seasons. Jason Elenberger accounted for three touchdowns and Denzel Perkins returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score.

8. (12) Manteca (11-1)
The Buffaloes beat Casa Roble (Orangevale) 49-13 in D-III play. Alex Laurel rushed 32 times for 132 yards and four touchdowns for the No. 2 seed.

9. (15) Inderkum (Sacramento) (10-2)
The Tigers outlasted Vanden (Fairfield) 62-42 in a D-III game. Austin Thurman rushed for three touchdowns and Kyree Ayo had two scores.

10. (15) Yuba City (11-1)

The Honkers celebrated the program's biggest home win since 1987, topping Grant (Sacramento) 27-12 in D-II. Omar Herrera ran for scores of 59 and 16 yards and Isaac Lessard accounted for two scores.

11. (18) Central Catholic (Modesto) (11-1)
The Raiders beat Colfax 57-27 in a Sac-Joaquin Section D-IV game, thanks to a 30-point second quarter. Matt Ringer rushed for 92 yards and two scores and the defense came up with three interceptions.

12. (6) Grant (Sacramento) (8-4), season complete
The Pacers lost at No. 10 Yuba City, 27-12, in a D-II game. The bulk of the team returns, including lineman Darrin Paulo and RB/LB Deandre Whittington-Grays.



13. (7) Granite Bay (8-4), season complete
The Grizzlies lost to No. 3 Oak Ridge, 28-17, in D-I play. Granite Bay won the previous two D-I titles.

14. (8) Burbank (Sacramento) (9-3), season complete
The Titans lost to No. 4 Elk Grove 18-12 in a D-II game in being held to five first downs and one offensive score. WR Calvin Green and DT Ngalu Tapa are headed to Washington State on scholarship.

15. (22) Hilmar (12-0)
The Yellowjackets beat longtime small-school power Escalon 14-7 in D-IV play despite rushing for just 70 yards on 34 carries. Jonathan O'Brien ran for a score and passed for one.

16. (24) Center (Antelope) (9-3)
The Cougars beat Placer 24-20 in D-IV play two weeks after beating the Hillmen for the Pioneer Valley League title. Tyrel Anderson was the difference again, returning a kickoff 85 yards for a score for the game winner.
Next: No. 15 Hilmar

17. (25) Christian Brothers (Sacramento) (9-3)
The Falcons beat top-seeded D-III American Canyon 30-27 as Chris Guillen accounted for three touchdowns, including a 99-yard play to Brandon Thompson.

18. (NR) Sacramento (10-2)

The Dragons beat defending section D-III and NorCal champion Oakdale 40-21, scoring the final 27 points. Caden Voges hit Damen Wheeler for a 60-yard pass early and a 2-yard play late, and he ran for two 3-yard touchdowns.

19. (9) Stagg (Stockton) (10-2), season complete
The Delta Kings lost to No. 5 Pleasant Grove 42-28 in D-I action, the third time in recent seasons they have failed to beat the Eagles. QB Wayne Brooks is an all-time program great.

20. (11) Vacaville (8-4), season complete
The Bulldogs lost to Rio Linda in D-II play a week after beating Rocklin.

21. (13) Rocklin (7-4), season complete
The Thunder lost to Vacaville in a D-II opener.

22. (16) American Canyon (10-2), season complete
The Wolves lost to new No. 17 Christian Brothers in D-III play.

23. (17) St. Mary's (Stockton) (7-4), season complete
The Rams lost to Yuba City in a D-II opener, 34-28.

24. (20) Franklin (Elk Grove) (8-4), season complete
The Wildcats lost to No. 1 Folsom in D-I play. Franklin tied Elk Grove and Grant for the Delta Valley Conference title.



25. (23) Whitney (Rocklin) (8-4), season complete
The Wildcats lost to No. 2 Del Oro 35-11 in D-II play after trailing 14-11 at the half. The Capital Athletic League champions beat Cosumnes Oaks (Elk Grove), 34-9 in an opener.
