Basketball Recap: Monacan Comes Up Short

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Monacan couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They came up short against the Atlee Raiders on Thursday, falling 79-59. While losing is never fun, the Chiefs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Raiders are ranked 16th).

Despite the loss, Monacan still got an impressive performance from Tai Bowler, who dropped a double-double with 28 points and 15 rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Bowler now owns an excellent 46.5% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Amare Cooper, who posted 15 points along with five assists and five boards.

Even though they lost, Monacan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Monacan's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-6. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.3 points. As for Atlee, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-1.

Monacan does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Atlee, they have already played their next game, a 66-59 victory against Varina on the 28th.
