Football Recap: Oxford Wolverines vs. Waterbury Career Academy Spartans
Oxford fell victim to Waterbury Career Academy and their airtight defense on Saturday. They were beaten by the Waterbury Career Academy Spartans 39-0. The Wolverines were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.
Mekheem Ambursley had a dynamite game for Waterbury Career Academy, rushing for 204 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. The dominant performance gave Ambursley a new career-high in rushing yards. Ethan Blaize was another key player, throwing for 126 yards and a touchdown while completing 87.5% of his passes.
Oxford's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Waterbury Career Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Oxford will be defending their home-field for the first time this season they go up against Seymour at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Waterbury Career Academy, they will head out to take on Wolcott at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
