Baseball Game Preview: Columbia Bruins vs. Kalama Chinooks

For the second straight game, Columbia will face off against Kalama. The Bruins will venture away from home to square off against the Chinooks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Columbia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, Columbia turned things around against Kalama on Tuesday. They blew past the Chinooks 15-4. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bruins considering their two-run performance the match before.

Jaden Wang was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. Wang was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Wyatt Stelma and Brody Landgren did most of the damage at the plate: Stelma went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Landgren went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Stelma is becoming a predictor of Columbia's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). Bryce Wang was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Columbia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Columbia's record now sits at 4-9. As for Kalama, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with the loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
