Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Galatia/Thompsonville). Everything went their way against the Shawnee Redskins on Monday as they made off with a 13-3 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Bearcats sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Hunter Gaither and Eli Hankins made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gaither pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hankins pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Gaither posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At the plate, Gaither got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Hankins went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joey Sais, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colin Jenkins, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Galatia/Thompsonville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Galatia/Thompsonville pushed their record up to 12-6 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Shawnee, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Galatia/Thompsonville will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Cobden at 4:30 p.m. on May 8. As for Shawnee, they will head out to square off against Meridian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13 runs per game on average), something the Redskins will no doubt try to take advantage of.
