Basketball Recap: Effingham County Rebels vs. Brunswick Pirates
The Effingham County Rebels's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their ninth straight loss. They took a hard 74-56 fall against Brunswick. While losing is never fun, Effingham County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 440th, while the Pirates are ranked 105th).
Despite the loss, Effingham County still got an impressive performance from Kyjana Jordan, who scored 31 points along with six steals. That was a full 55.4% of Effingham County's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ansleigh Giordano, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Brunswick found their leader in underclassman Jakai Alston, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Alston has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Shania Jones, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Effingham County has not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season. As for Brunswick, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Effingham County will challenge the Terrors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Glynn Academy will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. As for Brunswick, they will head out on the road to square off against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Grovetown focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Tuesday.
