Softball Game Preview: San Benito Greyhounds vs. Veterans Memorial Chargers

The San Benito Greyhounds will venture away from home to face off against the Veterans Memorial Chargers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

San Benito's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Los Fresnos. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Greyhounds.

Meanwhile, Veterans Memorial won against Hanna on Tuesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Chargers beat Los Fresnos by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. Considering the Chargers have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Arianna Garcia made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Veterans Memorial let Nina Longoria and Mia Gonzalez run wild. Longoria scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Gonzalez scored two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, Gonzalez posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Itzel Rodriguez, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Veterans Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Veterans Memorial is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for San Benito, their record now sits at 14-10-1.
