Baseball Recap: Gladstone Comes Up Short

Gladstone dropped to 11-8 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Molalla Indians by a score of 4-2. The Gladiators were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Indians earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

As for Molalla, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For Molalla's part, Kyler Dickerson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. Dickerson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mason Strohmeyer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Gavin Dunn, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Gladstone is set to face off against their familiar foe Madras at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Molalla will square off against rival The Dalles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
