Football Recap: South Park Takes a Loss

South Park extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-7. They were beaten by the St. Mary's Pirates 54-14. The Burros lost against the Pirates in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 2-0 score last time.

Kyle Basnett threw for 158 yards and one TD. Michael Valenzuela was his top target, picking up 84 receiving yards. On the ground, Bennett Salverson rushed for 35 yards and one touchdown.

As for St. Mary's, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 3-5 record. Considering they have won three games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Michael Trechter continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 164 yards and five TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushing for 58 yards and one score on only five carries. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble, making five total tackles (0.5 for loss), and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception. 133 of Trechter's passing yards were hauled in by Jackson Beam, who also brought in two receiving touchdowns.
