Basketball Recap: Leyton Extends Road Winning Streak to 14

Leyton extended their road winning streak to 14 games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Zaili Benish. The Leyton Warriors took their game on Saturday with ease, bagging a 72-42 win over the Hemingford Bobcats thanks in part to Benish, who went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc on her way to 40 points and five steals. The matchup was her 19th in a row with at least ten points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Shawnee Gamble, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 assists. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in assists.

Despite the loss, Hemingford still got an impressive performance from Kylie Kumpf, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 13 points and five rebounds. Kumpf has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Bailey Sellman was another key player, putting up six points and nine rebounds.

Leyton's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Hemingford, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Leyton will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Perkins County on January 4, 2025. Hemingford also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Niobrara County at 5:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
