Softball Recap: Sandia Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Sandia, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Kirtland Central Broncos on Thursday, sneaking past 14-12. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Matadors considering their two-run performance the game before.

Liliana Villanueva was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Destiny Romero, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Sandia is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.38 hits in those games compared to only 4.67 in the others. Kirtland Central's record is now 5-7.

Coming up, Sandia will be taking part in a tournament against Bernalillo at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. As for Kirtland Central, they will take on Atrisco Heritage Academy in a tournament on Friday. Kirtland Central's pitchers better be ready for this one: Atrisco Heritage Academy has averaged an impressive 11.7 runs per game this season.
