Baseball Game Preview: Joel Barlow Falcons vs. Immaculate Mustangs

The Joel Barlow Falcons will square off against the Immaculate Mustangs at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Joel Barlow is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Joel Barlow is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: New Milford, who was ranked ninth at the time (Joel Barlow was ranked third). The Falcons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Green Wave on Wednesday. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Falcons have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Will Gregor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gavin Maryott, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jimmy Kennedy, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Berlin hit Immaculate with a six-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 12-2 to the Redcoats, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ryan MacKinnon and Christian Robitaille did some serious damage despite the final result: MacKinnon got on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Robitaille went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Those runs marked the first that MacKinnon has scored this season.

Immaculate now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Joel Barlow, their victory was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0.

Joel Barlow took their win against Immaculate in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
