Basketball Recap: Mater Dei's Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

It was a good run, but Mater Dei unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to the St. Anthony Bulldogs 45-39. The Knights lost against the Bulldogs in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 78-45 score last time.

Mater Dei lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Gavin Peppenhorst, who went 6 for 15 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Elliott Rakers, who posted eight points and 12 boards.

Mater Dei's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-7. As for St. Anthony, their win was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mater Dei will be taking part in a tournament against Nashville at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Nashville will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Mater Dei surely won't give up without a fight. As for St. Anthony, they and Flora will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
