Softball Recap: Broadneck Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Broadneck took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Northern, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bruins narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Patriots 2-0. Winning may never get old, but the Bruins sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Not much got past Rylan Crisafulli, who gave up just two hits and racked up 18 Ks to keep Northern off the board. Crisafulli has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Isabella Herrera was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Corinn Bennett was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Broadneck pushed their record up to 11-2-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Northern, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Broadneck will head out to face off against Southern at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.9 runs per game on average), something the Bruins will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Northern, they will venture away from home to square off against Howard at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
