Baseball Game Preview: Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks vs. Miami Christian Victors

The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks will take on the Miami Christian Victors at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Archbishop McCarthy has six straight victories, Miami Christian has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Archbishop McCarthy is returning to their home field after beating Jupiter on theirs, despite the fact Jupiter has dominated at home this season. The Mavericks put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 7-1 win on Tuesday. Considering the Mavericks have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Archbishop McCarthy got a great performance from Zachary Tavarez as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The Mavericks are 7-3 when Tavarez allows three or fewer earned runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Caden Coleman was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Kaio Ramos was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Archbishop McCarthy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Miami Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Varela last Tuesday and fell 4-3.

Archbishop McCarthy's victory bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Miami Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.

Archbishop McCarthy was able to grind out a solid win over Miami Christian in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 11-6. Do the Mavericks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Victors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
