Baseball Recap: Middle Creek Takes a Loss

Middle Creek was the 11-3 winner over Broughton when they last played one another back in April of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Mustangs fell 8-5 to the Capitals on Friday. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Middle Creek got a good showing from Casey Murray, who struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Murray has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Middle Creek saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was John Lupienski, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI. Another was Garrett Sladek, who scored a run and stole three bases.

Middle Creek's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Broughton, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Middle Creek didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-1 defeat against Wake Forest on the 5th. As for Broughton, they have also already played their next matchup, an 11-5 loss against Wakefield on the 5th.
