Basketball Recap: Mercer Christian Academy Cavaliers vs. Tazewell Bulldogs
The Mercer Christian Academy Cavaliers had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Tazewell 65-36 on the road. Given Mercer Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 82nd in West Virginia, while the Bulldogs are ranked 417th in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
MJ Patton was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with six rebounds and five steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Mercer Christian Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Eli Patton, who scored 16 points.
Mercer Christian Academy now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Tazewell, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.
Mercer Christian Academy will head out on the road to challenge the Saints at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Victory Baptist Academy will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Tazewell will take on the Scarlet Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
