Baseball Game Preview: IMG Academy Gray Ascenders vs. Montverde Academy Eagles

The IMG Academy Gray Ascenders will square off against the Montverde Academy Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

IMG Academy Gray saw some tournament action on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by an 8-2 margin over Eustis.

Mason Montjoy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because IMG Academy Gray is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Yonghoon Lee, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Kenyatta Parker, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

IMG Academy Gray hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eustis struck out eight times.

Meanwhile, Montverde Academy earned a 6-3 victory over East Ridge on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Montverde Academy's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for IMG Academy Gray, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.

Everything went IMG Academy Gray's way against Montverde Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as IMG Academy Gray made off with an 11-1 win. Will IMG Academy Gray repeat their success, or does Montverde Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
