Softball Game Preview: Nixon-Smiley Mustangs vs. Poth Pirates

Nixon-Smiley is 0-9 against Poth since March of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. Nixon-Smiley will host Poth at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Nixon-Smiley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Karnes City, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Nixon-Smiley blew past Karnes City 19-5 on Friday. The contest marked the Mustangs' most dominant victory of the season.

Meanwhile, Poth waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Reese Urbanczyk made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Urbanczyk was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Ava Kroll was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Jetta Jorden, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Poth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .417 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Nixon-Smiley's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Poth, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
